O americano Jeff Gordon, que corre com chassi Chevrolet, venceu a primeira etapa válida pela temporada 2005 da NASCAR Nextel Cup. A etapa foi realizada no circuito de Daytona.
Kurt Busch, que corre com chassi Ford, ficou com a segunda posição, seguido por Dale Earnhardt Jr, que corre com o mesmo chassi que Gordon.
A corrida teve 23 trocas de líderes e do vencedor ao 17º colocado a diferença foi de apenas 2 segundos.
